retour sur le freref day 2019
Le Freref Day 2019 a été accueilli par l’institut international de droit humanitaire de Sanremo le 18 Novembre. Cette journée a été fructueuse en termes d’échanges, et les résultats des différents workshops ont conforté notre vision des missions qu’aura le Education inspiring Peace Lab. Le EIP Lab permettra de pérenniser les impacts de nos différents projets et de maintenir et agrandir les réseaux d’acteurs de l’éducation. La journée a été ouverte par Stefania Baldini, Secrétaire générale de l’institut international de droit humanitaire, et Silvana Ormea, conseillère municpale de Sanremo, remerciées par la présidente du Freref Christiane Demontès.
Claudio Dondi de l’IIHL a ensuite présenté le Education Inspiring Peace Lab, son approche de l’éducation à la paix, ses missions, son fonctionnement et les bénéfices qu’en retireront les différentes catégories de stakeholders.
Puis Claudio Baraldi, enseignant-chercheur à l’université de Modène région Emilie-Romagne a expliqué quelle était l’approche adoptée dans le projet Child Up qui permet à des chercheur·se·s de toute l’Europe d’enquêter sur les conditions d’intégration des enfants migrants dans les différents systèmes scolaires et en dehors. Ce projet de recherche se distingue par une approche centrée sur les enfants comme des acteurs actifs de leur propre processus d’intégration, selon le principe d’agency, et grâce à des méthodes de facilitation actives. Le manager du projet a ainsi expliqué en quoi cette approche permet de construire une citoyenneté apaisée.
Anne Bamford, Head of Education and Culture, City of London, a développé un argumentaire pour l’éducation à la paix et le rôle des établissements d’enseignements dans la construction d’un environnement propice au bien-être des individus. L’éducation à la Paix doit donner les clés pour relever les défis du futur et offrir une perspective optimiste aux jeunes d’aujourd’hui. Les anciens modèles de compétences doivent intégrer les « fusions skills » qui permettent de s’adapter à un environnement incertain, de prendre des décisions et exercer son esprit critique, ainsi que sa résilience et sa créativité pour faire face à de nouveaux défis.
Les participant·e·s ont ensuite pu échanger de façon interactive lors de session de workshops parallèles en essayant de répondre à ces trois problématiques :
- « Comment développer les compétences transformatives dans l’éducation formelle et informelle », avec comme grand témoin Jaana Puukka, consultante à Innovation Engage qui travaille auprès de l’OCDE et de la commission européenne.
- « Comment promouvoir l’approche en terme d’agency de l’apprenant·e pour une interaction des cultures positive », avec comme grand témoin Claudio Baraldi, manager du projet Child Up.
- « Comment apprendre à vivre ensemble : le rôle des territoires apprenants pour la paix et la citoyenneté », avec comme grand témoin Christiane Demontès, présidente du FREREF.
Ces workshops ont donné lieu à une restitution en assemblée plénière suivie d’une table ronde avec un panel de représentant·e·s d’organismes régionaux, du monde économique et d’experts en éducation et en knowledge-based development régional et local.
Le panel, composé de Josep Franci, de la chambre de commerce de Barcelone, Michel Albert, de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Xavier Farriols, membre du syndicat interrégional CSIR-Pyremed, Christiane Demontès, présidente du FREREF et Jaana Puukka, du cabinet Innovation Engage, a pu ainsi offrir des perspectives diverses sur le potentiel de peer learning territorial pour développer des compétences de citoyenneté globale au niveau local.
A la suite de la table ronde les participant·e·s ont pu mettre en perspective les idées échangées dans l’après-midi avec le travail du photographe Mohamed Keita. Ses photos, qui reflètent la réalité de la rue, par laquelle passent de nombreuses personnes migrantes quand elles arrivent sur le territoire européen, ont su émouvoir le public. Les invité·e·s étaient ravi·e·s d’avoir pu échanger avec le photographe sur son parcours et son travail à Rome et dans de nombreux pays.

The Freref Day 2019 was hosted by the international institute of humanitarian law of Sanremo on November 18. This day provided fruitful exchanges and results of workshops consolidate our expectations regarding the missions of the future Education Inspiring Peace Lab, which will enable the sustainability of impacts of our projects and the continuity and expansion of education professionals’ networks. The event was opened by Stefania Baldini, general Secretary of the IIHL, and Silvana Ormea, municpal councillor of Sanremo, thanked by Christiane Demontès, president of the FREREF.
Claudio Dondi of the IIHL then presented the Education Inspiring Peace Lab, its approach of Peace Education, its missions, functioning and benefits for the different categories of stakeholders.
Then Claudio Baraldi, teacher-researcher at the university of Modena, Reggio Emilia exposed the approach adopted in the Child Up project which implement research in many European countries about the condition of integration of migrant children in and around the different school systems. This project distinguish itself from other research projects through its children-centred approach, which consider children as active actors of their integration process, according to the agency principle, and thanks to active facilitation methods. The manager of the project then explained how does this approach enable to build a peaceful citizenship.
Anne Bamford, Head of Education and Culture, City of London, developed an argument advocating for Peace Education and highlighting the role of educational institution in the development of a positive environment and well-being of individuals. Peace Education should give the keys to meet the challenges of the future and adopt an optimistic perspective for young people. Existing competencies frameworks should now include « fusion skills » which enable to adapt to an uncertain environment, make decision and exercise critical thinking as well as its resilience and creativity to face new challenges.
Participants exchanged views later during workshops in a very interactive way on the following topics:
- « How to develop transformative competences within and around formal education », with as Grand témoin Jaana Puukka, from Innovation Engage.
- « How to promote a learner’s Agency approach for a positive interaction of culture » with Claudio Baraldi from UNIMORE.
- « How to learn to live together: the role of learning territories acting for peace and democratic citizenship », with as Grand témoin Christiane Demontès, from the FREREF.
A restitution of workshops was then made in a plenary session, followed by a round table with a panel composed of representatives of regional bodies, of the business world and an expert in education and regional and local knowledge-based development.
The panel, composed of Josep Franci from the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Michel Albert from the Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles, Xavier Farriols, member of CSIR-Pyremed, Christiane Demontès, President of FREREF and Jaana Puukka from Innovation Engage, could express various views on the topic of the potential of territorial peer learning to develop global citizenship competences at the grass-root level.
After the round table, all participants were invited to put the ideas exchanged during the day in perspective thanks to photograph exhibition of Mohamed Keita. His photographs, reflecting the reality of the life in the streets, which is known by numerous migrant persons when arriving on the European territory, deeply moved the participants. The public was really glad to have the opportunity to speak with the artist about his journey and his work in Roma and in many other countries.
